Things to Consider before Going Camping

With a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Idaho and a law degree from the University of Idaho School of Law, L. Jay Mitchell is an experienced business owner. In 2007, L. Jay Mitchell established Greenbrier Academy in Pence Springs, West Virginia. Outside of work, he enjoys fly fishing, hiking, and camping.

Camping is a great way to get out and enjoy nature, but you should consider a few things before pitching your tent this year, from the type of camping gear to the best time to go.

Not all campgrounds are created equal. When planning your trip, research and choose a campground that fits your preference. For example, are you looking for a campground with hookups for RVs, a campground with a lake, or a campground close to hiking trails? Once you know what you're looking for, you can narrow your options and find the perfect place to camp.

The best time to go camping depends on what kind of experience you're looking for. If you want to avoid the crowds, aim for mid-week trips or shoulder season dates (the months before and after peak season). If you don't mind crowds and want the best weather, aim for peak season dates in the summer or fall.

Packing for a camping trip is crucial. Start by making a list of must-haves like tents, sleeping bags, and lanterns, then add any other items you think you might need, like clothes, food, and games.

Problems of Social Media Addiction

For nearly two decades, L. Jay Mitchell has been the owner and founder of Greenbrier Academy based in Pence Springs, West Virginia. An accredited boarding school for teenage girls between the ages of 14 and 18, the academy is also a licensed, non-acute treatment facility. L. Jay Mitchell and his team of qualified life coaches, doctors, and teachers have helped many teenagers with issues like anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and social media addiction.

Social media addiction can manifest as a variety of behaviors, such as obsessively posting updates, continued scrolling through feeds, and feeling restless and distracted if unable to spend a significant portion of time online. It can lead to a variety of physical and mental issues.

One of the most notable mental effects of social media addiction is anxiety. People spending too much time on platforms can compare their lives to the perfectly curated personas they see on their feeds. This comparison can lead to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. Additionally, they may start to experience FOMO (fear of missing out) when they see photos and videos of friends and family enjoying activities in their absence. Social media addiction can also exacerbate symptoms of depression; since online relationships and interactions are often superficial, one might feel emotionally unfulfilled and isolated. On the other hand, too much time on social media takes away opportunities to create more meaningful bonds in person.

Alongside mental health challenges, social media addiction can have effects on sleep, eyesight, and body aches. A common physical consequence is neck pain and headaches, from constantly looking down at phones and other devices. Another effect is dry eyes, which can happen from staring at screens for extended periods. Most significantly, social media overuse can disrupt one’s circadian rhythm by exposing one to too much screen light at night, which adds to the FOMO, anxiety, or compulsive scrolling that might already keep one awake.

Effective Employee Training Techniques

L Jay Mitchell attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. In addition, he founded Greenbrier Academy Pence Springs in West Virginia. In addition, L Jay Mitchell is interested in various topics, spanning risk management, social media addiction, and employee welfare.

Employees play a significant role in an organization's overall growth and success. Thus, effective employee training techniques are crucial to creating an efficient and productive workforce. To achieve this, employers can use several training techniques in their work environment tailored to meet employee needs while preparing them for the job ahead.

A popular training technique is the eLearning method, which involves using online videos, tests, and courses in employee training. The adoption of this technique is fast growing due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic, which prevented in-person training. With the eLearning training technique, employees can learn the needed information from anywhere in the world while accommodating their needs and learning styles. Furthermore, employers can include interactive games, quizzes, and activities that improve knowledge retention with this technique.

Another effective training technique is hands-on training. This technique involves an on-the-job learning approach to employee training and often addresses the individual needs of employees. Employers typically use this training technique to improve employees' existing skills while enabling them to get properly situated in their new or existing roles.

Tips for Dealing with Depression

 L. Jay Mitchell is a graduate of Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. He is the author of the book Decide Now: The Good Life or The Best Life. The Greenbrier Academy founder, L. Jay Mitchell is also interested in Mental Health Research and Assessments, Social Media Addiction, and Depression.

Living with depression is an incredibly challenging experience that often feels isolating with performing basic routines such as going to work or cooking and feeling like a struggle. However, you can utilize certain techniques to alleviate some symptoms and improve your standard of living.

An easy method of managing your depression is getting a journal. Journal writing lets you be healthily open about your worries, feelings, and thoughts. Having such an output serves as a stress reliever since pent-up emotions are released. However, it would be best if you remained totally honest while journaling.

Further, several studies have found a link between diet and mental health, with poor nutrition contributing to some mental health illnesses. According to a 2012 study, zinc deficiency is linked to some depression symptoms. Many researchers have discovered that improving your eating habits can positively impact your mental health. However, you should contact your physician before making any major changes to your diet.

How to Fix Social Media Addiction

 L. Jay Mitchell is the founder of Greenbrier Academy, a licensed non-acute treatment center and an accredited academic/therapeutic boarding school for young women ages 14-18, located in Pence Springs, West Virginia. A member of All Kinds of Therapy, L. Jay Mitchell is also interested in anxiety, depression, reactive detachment disorder, and social media addiction.

Social media platforms have become a core aspect of many people’s daily lives, either for leisure, business, or both. However, this mass adoption has led to compulsive and excessive use of social media that negatively impacts other aspects of users’ lives. Researchers have categorized this phenomenon as social media addiction, with some experts estimating that at least 10 percent of people in the United States have it.

An effective technique for combating social media addiction is a social media cleanse in which users set a length of time to stay away from social media. A 2019 study discovered that students who abstained from social media for days felt a sense of serenity. Similarly, users can reduce their exposure to social media by limiting their use of their personal computers.

According to one study, 45 percent of people would rather use social media at night than sleep. As a result, their sleep patterns are disturbed. A technique people can employ to reduce this is placing their phones out of reach at night. Getting out of bed to use their phones may bring introspection while acting as a deterrent.

How Therapists Treat ADHD

Over the years, the rate of camping has increased immensely. According to the Statista Research Department, 40.52 million people in America participated in camping in 2012. And eight years later, the number skyrocketed to 47.94 million.

Though camping might have some difficulties, technology has emerged to make things easier. And technology helps campers through camping applications, giving them a smooth experience. So, apps such as WikiCamps, The Dyrt, Dark Sky, BackCountry Navigator, and Offline Survival Guide improve the camping experience.

First of all, WikiCamps provides users with valuable pieces of information concerning dump stations, backpacker hostels, and water taps across Canada, the United Kingdom, and America. Also, the application gives users information on RV parks and standard campgrounds. Since it acts as a crowdsourced app, the number of parks and campsites changes as people report their discoveries.

In addition, campers without access to the internet can download and use maps from WikiCamps. It has a digital compass, and campers can connect with their counterparts. WikiCamps is available on Android and iOS devices, and the free version comes with ads. Campers can purchase the ad-free version for $1.99.

Next, The Dyrt assists campers with selecting a suitable spot as their base camp by gathering user reviews and pictorial representations for more than 42,000 campgrounds across America. Through this app, campers can also reserve specific campsites. Likewise, The Dyrt makes camping gears available to its top reviewers for free as an incentive.

More so, Android and iOS users can access the application for free. However, the Pro version costs $35.99 each year, and it permits campers to access maps and listings offline. So, before purchasing the Pro, campers have access to a seven-day free trial.

The weather conditions can make or mar a camping trip, so having first-hand information about the weather forecast of a specific site is necessary. Fortunately, the Dark Sky app aids campers with such information. This app lets one know when the rain will begin or end. It also accurately predicts a storm's occurrence and location, and campers can schedule custom notifications to get information on weather changes.

In addition, Dark Sky has local and global maps that enable the above functions. The application is available on iOS devices, and campers get access to the 14-day free trial before paying $3.99 to purchase it.

As an application that allows users to access topographical maps offline, BackCountry Navigator derives its maps from several sources, including USGS Color Aerial photography, OpenStreetMaps, and NASA Landsat data. In addition, the application is compatible with Android Wear. So, campers can view the maps on their wrist for comfort. Finally, the application is exclusive to Android users, and campers can try out the free version. It also has in-app purchases; for instance, the Accuterra Map Source costs $19.99 a year.

The Offline Survival Guide app provides campers with some valuable life-coping tips; how to construct shelters, make fires, treat injuries, and find food and water. Likewise, the application educates users on surviving in harsh environments like tropical areas, the sea, and deserts. Also, it shares reasonable steps for power generation.

More importantly, the Offline Survival Guide provides information on the nature of plants. Campers can spot a poisonous plant using this app. In sum, Android users can access the application at no cost.

An Introduction to Relational Therapy Techniques

A graduate of Brigham Young University, L Jay Mitchell founded Greenbrier Academy in 2007, a boarding school that caters to the academic and therapeutic needs of girls aged 14-18. L Jay Mitchell is also the author of a self-development book titled "The Good Life or The Best Life." In the book, he referred to the principles of Applied Relationality, which postulates that psychologists can study reality through human interactions in people's relationships.

Relational therapy is a form of psychotherapy that shows the link between negative or positive human interactions and their effects on different individuals.

Techniques involved in relational therapy include cognitive-behavioral practices that focus on fixing triggering thoughts that result in negative actions, which may cause issues in relationships, and creating learning structures that promote healthy ideas in patients.

Psychotherapy is another relational therapy technique that tries to understand the effect of certain events in a person's relationships and reconstruct their attitude towards those events in their lives. Psychotherapy also helps the patient to self-develop through the therapist's explanation of these experiences, which can lead to self-awareness and growth.

How Does Neurofeedback Work?

A former attorney, L. Jay Mitchell is the founder, director, and principal owner of Greenbrier Academy for Girls in Lewisburg, West, Virginia. Since 2007, L. Jay Mitchell has guided the licensed, non-acute treatment center in providing college preparatory academics and therapeutic interventions such as equine therapy, music therapy, and neurofeedback.

A type of biofeedback, neurofeedback utilizes electronic devices to measure brainwave activity and detect stress in the body. Because brainwaves inform everything from emotions to sleep quality, understanding and manipulating them can help reduce symptoms of anxiety without medication. During a neurofeedback session, a technician records the brain’s electrical impulses, then compares these brainwaves with a normative database. This helps generate a map that indicates where brainwaves are too fast or too slow.

The subject might then watch a movie that fades as their brainwaves become unregulated and brightens when brainwaves are regulated. Over time, they learn to self-regulate brainwaves to keep them in a harmonic state.

Author Corrects Misconceptions in Book

An expert in wilderness therapy, L Jay Mitchell is a group presenter and guest speaker specializing in helping individuals and small groups overcome obstacles to happiness and contentment. Having founded several residential programs and created a therapeutic model called Applied Relationality, L Jay Mitchell explores assumptions of this model and the psychological concept of identity and self in his book Decide Now: The Good Life or The Best Life.

In this innovative book, he proposes that identity and how a person perceives that identity is tied to many life issues including, success, the quality of relationships, and whether a person attains fulfillment. With great care, the author corrects common misconceptions about the concept of self, such as the conception that a person's identity results exclusively from genetic factors and external conditions during growth and development. In the place of these conceptions, the author opines that a person's belief about themself is fundamental in determining their identity. This may be considered an internal condition although influenced by outside sources. He proposes that people have the power to influence essential issues in their lives by shaping how they view themselves.

Furthermore, he clarifies the positive psychology movement's implication that the most prominent life purpose is emotional satisfaction. Opining instead that the term emotional satisfaction has often been confused to mean well-being and happiness in the moment. Instead, the author posits that the primary life purpose is to live "a life of rich meaning and purpose, a life of quality relationships, a life of giving and receiving love."

Internet Addiction in Teenagers

Since 2007, L. Jay Mitchell has overseen operations for the Greenbrier School for Girls, which maintains membership in the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs. Under L. Jay Mitchell’s leadership, Greenbrier Academy provides therapeutic programming for teenage girls dealing with issues such as depression, anxiety, and addiction.

In a 2016 survey by Common Sense Media, more than 50 percent of teenagers said they feel addicted to their mobile devices and 75 percent said they feel pressure to respond immediately to social media posts and texts. When Internet and social media usage begins to crowd out other activities such as sports, socializing, and eating, the habit may require intervention.

To recognize the signs of Internet addiction, parents should note whether their teen is spending two-thirds or more of their free time online and if they are withdrawing from friends and family and normal hobbies. They should also evaluate if the teen talks about the Internet when they are not using it, or if they lie about their time online. Finally, is the habit interfering with sleep or causing physical symptoms such as eye strain or headaches? If so, parents may wish to seek more information or consult a therapist trained in Internet addiction among teenagers.

Purposeful Aspirations Build Self-Worth

L. Jay Mitchell is the founder of Greenbrier Academy for Girls, a boarding school in rural West Virginia that provides tools for recovery and personal growth. A foundation of L. Jay Mitchell’s methodology and philosophy at Greenbrier Academy centers on purposeful aspirations to reach emotional well-being.

The Aspirations is a series of five virtue combinations that define healthy ways of giving and receiving love. A unified system, the Aspirations seek to persuade the students that they are lovable. Its components are courtesy/compassion, respect/gratitude, empathy/forgiveness, honor/humility, and trust/trustworthiness.

These combinations cut through the unhealthy core identity belief that a person is unlovable and help them overcome negative concepts such as “deficient,” “unworthy,” and “not enough.” Unfortunately, these concepts often are buttressed by a barrier of denial, with students desperate, for seemingly irrational reasons, to protect their negative core beliefs.

Forging a commitment to the Aspirations starts with the “Village” experience: a connective campus environment that encourages students to expand their concept of a loving self and release shame and harmful self-judgments. Through connections with other students and staff, students find pathways toward “the light within” and gain the impetus to share this positivity with others.

Reinforced by students and mentors who have gone through the process, young women at Greenbrier Academy learn to embrace the Aspirations and integrate them into everyday life. This investment in a positive self-image can last a lifetime and carry through to family long after graduation from Greenbrier Academy.
